Everyone’s getting into houseplants these days. Walk into any apartment in Karachi or Lahore and you’ll probably spot at least one snake plant or money plant tucked somewhere. It’s not just Instagram hype either – plants actually make your place feel more alive.
Gardener.pk started selling plants because finding decent ones in local nurseries was frustrating. Half were already dying, prices were all over the place, and nobody could tell you how to keep them alive. Now we ship healthy plants across Pakistan with care guides that actually work.
Look, let’s be honest. Most people kill their first few plants. It happens. The trick is starting with something that can handle your learning curve.
Snake plants are basically bulletproof. Forget to water them for three weeks? They’re fine. Put them in a dark corner? Still fine. We’ve had customers accidentally leave them in storage for months and they survived. The tall, striped leaves look modern too, so they fit any decor.
Money plants spread like crazy once they get going. Buy one and you’ll end up with five after a year just from cuttings. They climb, trail, or hang – whatever you want. Your neighbors will probably ask for cuttings eventually.
ZZ plants have these thick, glossy leaves that always look perfect. They handle neglect better than most plants handle good care. Water them once a month and they’re happy. We sell tons of these to people who travel frequently.
Peace lilies bloom with white flowers that look expensive but aren’t. They droop dramatically when thirsty, so you know exactly when to water. No guesswork. The flowers appear randomly throughout the year, which is always nice.
Pothos comes in different patterns – some have yellow streaks, others are more white and green. They grow fast enough that you see progress quickly. Nothing’s more encouraging than watching your plant actually get bigger.
Spider plants make baby plants on long stems. It’s weird but cool. You can cut the babies off and plant them or leave them attached for a cascading effect. Kids love watching the babies grow.
Most Pakistani homes don’t have great natural light, which is actually perfect for many houseplants. Direct sunlight through windows can be too harsh anyway.
Living rooms usually get the best light. That’s where you want your statement plants – rubber trees, large snake plants, or monstera if you have the space. These get big over time, so plan ahead.
Bedrooms are typically darker. Perfect for ZZ plants, small snake plants, or pothos. Don’t believe the myth about plants stealing oxygen at night. That’s nonsense.
Bathrooms with windows are great for humidity-loving plants. Peace lilies, Boston ferns, spider plants – they love the steam from showers. Just make sure there’s some light.
Water when the soil feels dry an inch down. Stick your finger right into the dirt. If it’s dry, water thoroughly until it drains out the bottom. If it’s still moist, wait a few days.
Most people overwater. Yellow leaves usually mean too much water, not too little. When in doubt, wait another day or two before watering.
Pakistani tap water is fine for most plants. If your water smells heavily of chlorine, let it sit out overnight before using. Plants aren’t that picky about water quality.
Dust your plants occasionally. City air is dirty and leaves get grimy. Just wipe them with a damp cloth. They’ll look better and grow better.
Overwatering kills more plants than drought. It’s the most common mistake. Soggy soil leads to root rot, which is usually fatal. Better to underwater slightly than overwater.
Pests show up sometimes. Tiny spider mites create webbing on leaves. Scale insects look like small brown bumps. Both are annoying but not catastrophic. Wipe leaves with soapy water or use neem oil if it’s bad.
Brown leaf tips happen when humidity is low or water has too many chemicals. Not a big deal. Just trim the brown parts with scissors.
Plants drop old leaves naturally as they grow new ones. Don’t panic if older leaves turn yellow and fall off. Only worry if it’s happening to new growth or multiple leaves at once.
Don’t buy ten plants on your first order. Get two or three and see how you do. Learn their watering schedules and growth patterns before adding more.
Put plants where you’ll notice them daily. Kitchen counter, coffee table, bedside table. If you stick them in corners and forget about them, they’ll suffer.
Most plants grow slowly indoors. Don’t expect dramatic changes in a few weeks. But over months, you’ll notice new leaves and increased size. It’s satisfying in a way that’s hard to explain.
Price varies a lot depending on size. Small plants are cheaper but take forever to look substantial. Medium-sized plants offer the best balance of cost and immediate impact.
Some plants will die. Even experienced gardeners lose plants sometimes. Don’t take it personally. Figure out what went wrong and try again.
Instagram plant accounts make it look easier than it is. Those perfect, lush plants took years to get that way. Your new plant won’t look like that immediately.
Plant care advice online is often too general. “Bright, indirect light” doesn’t tell you much. We try to give specific guidance for Pakistani homes and conditions.
You don’t need expensive equipment or fertilizers to start. A few healthy plants in regular pots with basic potting soil is enough. Add fancy stuff later if you get into it.
We test plants in actual Pakistani homes before selling them. If something consistently dies in Karachi’s humidity or Lahore’s heat, we don’t stock it.
Our care instructions are specific to Pakistan. We know what works in apartments with limited light, what survives monsoon humidity, and what handles summer heat waves.
Plants arrive in good condition because we’ve figured out shipping logistics. It took time to get packaging right for Pakistan’s weather and distances, but we’ve got it down now.
If a plant dies within the first month, we replace it. Sometimes shipping stress or adjustment issues cause problems despite our best efforts. We stand behind what we sell.
Most customers start small and gradually build collections. That’s smart. Learn what works in your specific space and conditions before expanding. Plants are addictive once you get the hang of it.
